[ARCHIVED] Calling Local Businesses and Community Members for Monthly Beach Cleanups at Jackson’s Beach

Environmental Stewardship

SAN JUAN COUNTY, WA. July 17, 2024 – Have you noticed the microplastics at Jackson Beach? These tiny bits of plastic harm our marine ecosystem, affecting forage fish, salmon, seabirds, and even killer whales. That’s why Plastic Free Salish Sea is asking local businesses and community members to help clean up the beaches at monthly events!

Plastic Free Salish Sea – a local coalition of environmentally-focused organizations – is excited to partner with local businesses to organize monthly beach clean-ups at Jackson Beach.  We’ll supply the gear and materials needed; all you need to do is show up! Beach clean-ups will be held on the first Sunday of every month from 11-12PM at Jackson Beach starting this Fall with our first cleanup hosted by the Orca Network!PlasticBeachCleanUp_FriendsoftheSanJuans

For Businesses

If you are a local business or organization that would like to lead a beach clean-up, please email katiej@sanjuancountywa.gov. All you need to do is promote the event and get people to show up with your business or organization on the month that you choose. All materials and clean-up supplies will be provided.

For Everyone

All community members are welcome to join these beach clean-ups. Keep an eye out for the monthly schedule and other opportunities to get involved!
