SAN JUAN COUNTY, WA. January 25, 2024 – The San Juan County Elections Office has mailed ballots to all voters living in the San Juan Island School District No. 149 and Orcas Island School District No. 137 for the February 13 Special Election.
Eligible voters who have not received a ballot by February 1 should call the elections office at 360-378-3357 to request a replacement.
While replacement ballots may be requested in person, elections staff recommend requesting a replacement by email or phone. Email requests should be sent to elections@sanjuancountywa.gov. After January 29, replacement ballots can also be requested or accessed electronically at VoteWA.gov.
The deadline to submit new voter registrations and voter updates to existing registrations online or by mail is 5 p.m. February 5. Voters may still register and update existing voter registrations in person at the Elections office, 55 2nd St. Ste. A, Friday Harbor, by 8 p.m. February 13. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

How do I register to vote in Washington?
It's easy and secure to register online, by mail with a paper form, or at the county elections office. Check your registration at VoteWA.gov.
To register to vote in the state of Washington, you must be:
- A citizen of the United States
- A legal resident of Washington state for at least 30 days prior to election day
- At least 18 years old
- If you are 16 or 17, you can sign up as a Future Voter and be automatically registered to vote when you qualify
- Not disqualified from voting due to a court order
- Not currently serving a sentence of total confinement in prison under the jurisdiction of the department of corrections for a Washington felony conviction
- Not currently incarcerated for a federal or out-of-state felony conviction
What if I miss the deadline to register online or by mail?
Washington offers same day registration services through election day. 8-days prior to the election you must register (or update) in person at the Elections Office.
Important notes:
- Ballots have pre-paid postage and must be postmarked by Election Day or returned to one of the ballot drop boxes by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Ballot box drop-off locations in San Juan County can be found here.
- You can check the status of your mail-in ballot at VoteWA.gov.
Voting by Mail FAQ
If mailing your ballot via USPS, we recommend mailing your ballot the Friday before election day. If mailing on election day have the post office hand stamp your ballot. San Juan County mail is delivered to Seattle and then processed the following day.
