Community Health Survey - Now Live!
We want to hear from you! Health & Community Services has launched its community health survey and it's open to all San Juan County residents. This survey should take 8 to 10 minutes to complete and is 42 questions long. Your answers will help paint the overall picture of wellness in San Juan County by answering questions about quality of life and health in our community. You can find the survey online at https://engage.sanjuancountywa.gov/community-health-assessment. If you are having trouble accessing the survey online, please call the HCS front office at 360-378-4474 to ask for assistance in taking the survey in another format.
County Announces Ban on Recreational Fires
The San Juan County Fire Marshal has declared a ban on all recreational fires after consultation with the San Juan County Fire Chiefs. Due to current atmospheric and field conditions, this ban applies throughout unincorporated San Juan County. The following operations are prohibited during the burn ban:
- No recreational campfires using charcoal or firewood
- No outdoor cooking fires involving charcoal or firewood
- No tiki torches or similar product with an open flame fueled by oil
Back to School Vaccine Clinics are Around the Corner
Is it really almost back to school season? Don’t worry, Health & Community Services has got your back-to-school vaccine planning covered! HCS will be offering free clinics this August to make sure everyone’s ready for the next school year. Clinics will be on San Juan Island (Tuesday, Aug. 22 from 3 to 6 p.m.), Orcas Island (Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 3 to 6 p.m.) and Lopez Island (Wednesday, Aug. 30 from 3 to 6 p.m.). Coming Soon – New Trailhead Parking at Mount Grant Preserve!
Beginning in mid-August, your Conservation Land Bank will work with a contractor to install a new trailhead parking area at Mount Grant Preserve on San Juan Island. Staff anticipate some construction traffic and possible temporary closure to ensure safety. Stay tuned via social media or the Land Bank news pages for updates.
Land Bank Special Commission Meeting – Sept 8
San Juan County’s Conservation Land Bank wants your input regarding future plans for the Watmough Bay Preserve Addition (formerly the Higgins property) on Lopez Island. The Commission will hold a special meeting from 10:15am-12pm at the Lopez Island Family Resource Center. The meeting will also be available to attend via Zoom. Save the date! The fall Great Islands Cleanup is Saturday September 30th.
Join your fellow islanders for the 2023 Fall Great Islands Clean-up on Saturday, September 30. During this event, participants of all ages can sign-up to collect trash on a designated beach or road, and then bring trash to a central meeting spot to be counted. Public Works Annual Road Striping Begins
San Juan County’s Public Works Department is announcing its annual summer road striping schedule beginning on September 11 and lasting approximately several weeks. Pavement markings, including centerlines, shoulder markings, arrows, and more, are critical features of any safe and effective roadway, and it takes routine maintenance to ensure that these markings are clear, visible, and accurate.
